Pure Water, Clean Coasts, Safety and Access for all
Blue Flag Albania is responsible for managing and promoting the Blue Flag program in our country, ensuring that our beaches and marinas meet international standards.
Our Mission in its role as the national operator of the Blue Flag program is to promote environmental sustainability, high standards of safety, and the protection of Albania’s coastal and marine ecosystems. Through the Blue Flag program, we aim to encourage the development of eco-friendly tourism and ensure the continuous improvement of beach quality, water safety, and environmental education for both locals and visitors.
Objectives
Promote Sustainable Tourism
We work to support the growth of eco-conscious tourism in Albania by encouraging the adoption of sustainable practices on beaches and marinas, ensuring that visitors enjoy a clean and safe environment.
Improve Water Quality and Beach Standards
Our goal is to ensure that Albanian beaches meet rigorous environmental and safety standards, focusing on water quality, environmental management, safety, and accessibility to enhance the overall tourist experience.
Enhance Environmental Awareness
Through educational programs and public campaigns, we aim to raise awareness about environmental protection, encouraging both local communities and tourists to actively participate in maintaining clean and safe beaches.
Support the Certification of Beaches
We assist in the application process for Blue Flag certification, providing guidance to beach operators, ensuring they meet the necessary criteria, and maintaining regular monitoring of awarded beaches.
Foster Collaboration
We work closely with local authorities, environmental organizations, and other stakeholders to align Albania’s coastal management with international sustainability standards, furthering Albania’s presence in the global Blue Flag network.

By achieving these objectives, we aim to create a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable beach environment for Albania, helping to attract responsible tourists and ensure the long-term preservation of its beautiful coastlines.
National Operator
The Albanian Coast Lifeguards and Water Rescue Federation (Federata Shqiptare Vrojtuesit e Plazhit dhe Shpëtimit në Ujë) has been dedicated to promoting water safety and ensuring safe tourism in Albania since its establishment. Since 2016, the federation has focused on educating, training, and certifying lifeguards across the country, aiming to improve beach safety and protect visitors. In addition to lifeguard training, the federation actively promotes sustainable beaches and works to raise awareness about environmental responsibility.
In 2020, the Albanian Coast Lifeguards and Water Rescue Federation became the national operator for the Blue Flag program in Albania, further advancing its mission to support eco-friendly tourism and protect the country’s coastal and marine environments. Through its efforts, the federation plays a key role in enhancing the safety, sustainability, and quality of Albania’s beaches.
